  • Types of kid’s toys
Gone are the days when a kid had to entertain himself with a cardboard box and a spoon. Today's kids are spoilt for choice when it comes to picking toys to keep them busy. Like everything else, toys have evolved over the years. Some of the popular categories of kids toys are: Arts and crafts toys: Arts and crafts have always been a source of entertainment for children. For each age group, there are special types of arts and crafts toys. For example, while crayons are ideal for infants and pre-schoolers, jewellery making kits are loved by preteen girls. Other common types of arts and crafts toys include modeling clay, coloring books, glitter kits and 3D modeling. Dolls and figurines: This is classic favourite when it comes to kids toys. While traditionally, girls love their dolls and boys favor action figurines, these lines are greatly blurred today. There are many types of dolls a little girl can choose from. These range from Barbies to dolls that can open and shut their eyes to battery operated dolls that can walk. When talking of action figurines, a child's choice is only limited by the number of characters created for cartoons and comics. Educational toys: Toys not only keep a child busy, but can also aid in their cognitive development. For infants, this type of toy can take the form of stacking cups or differently shaped blocks that must be dropped in the correct slot. Alphabet and number blocks or an abacus are other common forms of educational toys for pre-schoolers. As they grow older, they may also begin to experiment with science kits. Puzzles: Puzzles are an entertaining as well as a developmental toy. Puzzles are an ideal toy for children of all ages and even adults. They help improve a child's visual and spatial awareness and also encourage them to develop problem-solving strategies. Simple puzzles with knobs for infants help them develop their motor skills. Construction kits: Construction kits are a favourite with boys and girls alike. Blocks could probably be considered the simplest form of construction kits. As a child grows bigger, the size of the elements in these kits grows smaller. This is an ideal outlet for their creativity and engineering skills. Children can be kept occupied for hours when given a set of Lego blocks or Mechanix. Sometimes, it may even tempt adults to join in! Scale models: Almost every boy will remember his childhood spent with model cars. Scale models are available in many forms ranging from models of cars and trucks to models of houses, helicopters and even entire cities. Soft toys: Last but not the least is the quintessential favourites - soft toys. Many children never outgrow their favourite soft toys and these toys may even find themselves going to college. Animal soft toys are the most popular and are available in sizes that range from a few inches to life-sized ones.
  • Symptoms and Causes of Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the most common forms of skin cancer which develops in the squamous cells. These are the cells that constitute the middle and outer layer of the skin. Such kind of skin cancer is usually not thought of by doctors to be life-threatening. If this disease is not treated, then squamous cell carcinoma has the potential to grow large or spread to other parts of the patient's body, causing serious complications and problems, which is a characteristic common to almost all kinds of cancer. Symptoms of squamous cell carcinoma Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the skin most often occurs on those parts of the skin which are exposed to the sun. Some of the various signs and symptoms of this disease are:
    • A red nodule which is firm
    • A sore, generally flat with a scaly crust
    • A new sore in some part of the skin or in some cases, a raised area on an old scar or ulcer which comes back
    • A scaly and rough patch on the patient's lip that may subsequently evolve to an open sore and cause further problems
    • A red sore or a rough patch, which might itch, may develop in the inside of some patient's mouth
Causes of squamous cell carcinoma Squamous cell carcinoma is known to occur when the concerned cells in the outer layer of one's skin develop some basic functional errors in their DNA. Under ordinary circumstances, new cells generally push the older cells towards the surface of the skin and then the older cells die and are removed. Errors in the DNA disrupt this pattern, making cells grow out of control, and then it ultimately leads to this type of skin cancer. Ultraviolet light and other potential causes A significant amount of damage done to the DNA in the skin cells is a result of ultraviolet radiation, which is found in sunlight and in other places like commercial tanning lamps. However, an exposure to the sun may not be the reason for skin cancers which develop on parts of the skin that are not ordinarily exposed to high amounts of sunlight. This indicates that there may be other factors which contribute to one's risk of skin cancer. Though it is not as serious as the other types of cancer, you should not take it lightly. You must visit a doctor immediately if you see any of the symptoms listed above and get diagnosed and treated because after all, squamous cell carcinoma is a type of cancer and can become extremely harmful, if not treated.
  • Do you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain?

In 1979, British-born American singer Rupert Holmes wrote a single with a wacky title Escape (The Pina Colada Song). With its catchy tune, this song about rekindling romance through a shared love for Pina Colada and rain has been used in the soundtrack of popular movies such as Guardians of Galaxy, Grown Ups, and Shrek.

The lyrics of Holmes single are so simple that the words get stuck in your head and makes you crave for Pina Colada and go dancing in the rain or maybe somewhere out there to a beach. Perhaps to the idyllic beaches of Puerto Rico, where Pina Colada was first made? Just a year before Holmes wrote his song, Pina Colada became the national drink of the Caribbean Island in 1978. Puerto Ricans are so proud of their creation that they celebrate National Pina Colada Day every year on 10 July.

Made with pineapple juice, coconut milk, and rum, the cocktail has a Spanish-origin name. Pina Colada literally means 'strained pineapple'. The credit for the original recipe of Pina Colada is owned by Puerto Rican bartenders: Ramon "Monchito" Marrero Perez and Ramon Portas Mingot.

According to one story, Ramon "Monchito" Marrero Perez made the first Pina Colada drink by mixing rum and coco lopez, that is, cream of coconut. This was in 1954 at Caribe Hilton Hotel's Beachcomber Bar in San Juan where Perez worked. Another story claims that Mingot created the drink in 1963 at Barrachina Restaurant in Old Juan.

Perez and Mingot were given the formal ownership of the drink in a contest held all over Puerto Rico. However, despite these claims, the original Pina Colada has a far more interesting story. Roberto Cofresi, a Puerto Rican pirate, saw that his crew was losing their enthusiasm. To energize them, Confresi, who was also known as El Pirata Confresi, concocted a beverage by mixing coconut cream, pineapple juice, and white rum. Thus, this sweet cocktail has its origins in the 19th century

Who would have known that such an innocent-looking beverage with its sweetness and fruity aroma would have such a beginning in the wild wild world of Puerto Rican pirates? Apparently, the original recipe was lost after the death of El Pirata Confresi. According to official records, Perez and Mingot revived the drink, which was later made popular worldwide by the Rupert Holmes song. The next time you order a Pina Colada, you will know the innocent-looking tropical drink has had a far more interesting story than you would have imagined.

  • Understanding HIV and its life cycle
HIV is a deadly virus that directly attacks your immune system. The destruction is beyond repair. People often confuse HIV with AIDS. However, AIDS is the ultimate stage of an HIV infection. So being infected with HIV virus doesn't mean that you have AIDS. Basically, there are two kinds of HIV HIV-1 - This is the one that is responsible for AIDS, and has become a threat to the entire world. HIV-2 - This causes a condition that is similar to AIDS. It is generally uncommon. The HIV virus undergoes its own life cycle inside your body. This life cycle has seven stages. For better understanding about how the virus infects your immune system, you must know all these seven stages. Stage 1 - Binding The HIV virus attaches or binds itself to CD4+ cells. These cells are a kind of white blood cells and are responsible for a body's natural defense. There are certain receptors on the wall of the CD4+ cells and the HIV virus binds to those receptors. In this stage, CCR5 antagonist medicines are used to stop further infection. Stage 2 - Fusion After binding to the receptor on the wall of the CD4+ cells, the envelope of HIV and the cell membrane of CD4+ cell fuse together. This fusion allows the passage of HIV virus into the CD4+ cell. Certain fusion inhibitors are prescribed by the doctors when the patient reports to them at this stage. Stage 3 - Reverse transcription After the HIV cell is inside the host cell, it uses the enzyme reverse transcriptase, which is released by itself, to transform its own RNA to DNA. For this, the virus enters the nucleus of the cell and utilizes the cell's machinery. At this stage, the doctor prescribes non-nucleoside and sometimes nucleoside inhibitors to stop the infection. Stage 4 - Integration Now the HIV virus releases an enzyme with the help of which it can insert its own DNA into the DNA of the host cell inside the nucleus. Integrase inhibitors are used to stop the infection at this phase. Stage 5 - Replication After the virus is integrated into the host cell machinery, it starts the replication process. It makes long chains of HIV proteins. When enough protein chains are created, the HIV virus is complete. Stage 6 - Assembly After adequate proteins have been accumulated, the proteins and HIV RNA rise up to the surface and assemble the portions together to form an HIV virus. Stage 7 - Budding When the formation of new HIV virus is complete, it comes out of the host cell. It releases an enzyme called protease. After it has retained stability, the protease breaks the protein chains that were made from the past immature virus. When these smaller broken proteins begin to mature, they combine to produce a single mature protein. You should start taking medication at the moment you find out that you have HIV. The medicines may not be able to stop the entire process, but they can definitely slow down the progress and help manage the symptoms.

  • Top dividend income funds to invest in
Being financially secure for life is a dream for everyone, but fulfilling it may be a major challenge unless one doesn’t have at least the basic knowledge about financial management. Earning a steady salary is merely the first step; multiplying it is the main one. In that sense, investing in income funds which offer big dividends in return is a perfect choice. Even though many people are tempted to opt for funds that give the highest yields on a quarterly basis, there are other factors which must be considered before investing in them. One of them is the expense ratio, which basically indicates the per annum amount an investment company charges for the sum invested by a consumer. The other factor is that dividends earned may be used to buy more shares, thereby reinvesting them in a process known as the Dividend Reinvestment Program (DRIP). Here are two of the best dividend income funds which have been relied upon and consistently given benefits to the investors:
    • Vanguard International High Dividend Yield Index Fund (VIHIX) The specialty of VIHIX lies in the fact that it gives investors the much-needed exposure to nearly 800 stocks in companies both in and out of the country. They are estimated to deliver above-average yields at a cost of 0.42%, which is 64% less than an average expense ratio of funds of a similar type. It means that if a person invests the minimum amount set of $3000, he or she would have to pay only $12.6 to the investment firm for the same. The fund has large-cap value, which signifies that it is suited for those who have investment goals for the long-term and may persevere with the volatility of stock markets.
    • Fidelity Capital and Income Fund (FAGIX) This is amongst the best dividend income funds that also gives an investor capital growth in the form of diversification. A minimum investment of $2500 is required and as of June 29, 2018, an investor will have to pay around $16.75 due to an expense ratio of 0.67%. The fund claims that each year, an investor gains 5.69% annual returns on an average and persisting for 10 years takes it to 8.55% and more. This fund ought to rank in the top dividend income funds as it consists mainly of high-yield bonds, involving maximum returns against average risks.
