High cholesterol and heart attack – Know the connection

Cholesterol not only helps the body to build new cells, but it insulates nerves and helps in the production of hormones. Normally, our liver makes all the cholesterol that our body needs. But cholesterol also enters our body through food, such as fatty animal-based foods like milk, eggs, red meat and junk food with high trans fat and saturated fats.

High cholesterol levels in the body put the heart at risk, and that is why it is very important to maintain normal cholesterol levels.

There are three forms of cholesterol in our body:

Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or the bad cholesterol,
High-density lipoprotein (HDL) or the good cholesterol, and
Triglycerides which are the type of cholesterol, which is stored in the body as fats.
A person having high cholesterol has high levels of LDL and triglycerides with low levels of HDL.

The normal cholesterol levels are:

HDL: Higher than 55 mg/dL for females and 45 mg/dL for males
LDL: Lower than 130 mg/dL, if you do not have heart disease or diabetes and not more than 100 mg/dL if you have heart disease or diabetes.
Triglycerides: Less than 150 mg/dL
High LDL cholesterol levels in the blood build up in the walls of your arteries and this cause a process called atherosclerosis. This leads to arteries become narrowed, and blood flow to the heart muscle is gradually slowed down or blocked.

A higher level of HDL is required to mop up these stray fats and take it back to the liver. Normal cholesterol levels with high HDL is achieved through physical activity and intake of omega-3 fatty acids.

As blood carries oxygen to the heart, blockages in your arteries can disrupt the flow of oxygen, thereby causing ischemic pain. If the blood is unable to reach even a portion of the heart due to a blockage, the person suffers from a heart attack.

Angioplasty opens up the arteries, which are blocked by fats and medicines are given to attain normal cholesterol levels.

  • Dental implants – Components, types, and benefits
Oral hygiene practices like brushing and flossing are incredibly essential. Not caring for the teeth can cause them to decay and even fall off in extreme cases. Consequently, missing teeth can make chewing food complicated and cause extreme discomfort. To manage the problem, dentists affix dental implants in the jawbone that replace the lost teeth. Here is a quick guide on how implants work and their popular types and benefits. How do dental implants work? A dental implant effectively works both as a root and a tooth. The three components of a dental implant are:
    • The implant The implant is placed carefully into the jawbone using surgery. It is made of biocompatible titanium, which means that, once placed into the jawbone, it will integrate with it gradually over three to six months. This is a slow but effective process called osseointegration.
    • The abutment This is a component used to attach the implant to its restoration.
    • The restoration Depending on the individual needs and the dentist's recommendations, this component can be a porcelain crown, denture, or bridge.
Types of dental implants The following are a few popular types of dental implants one may come across:
    • Endosteal implants These are the most common type of dental implants consisting of titanium screws or cylinders placed into the jawbone with the help of a surgery. Once the surgery is successful and the implants have integrated with the bone properly, the teeth can be attached to these implants. Endosteal implants are usually recommended for individuals with good bone density and volume.
    • Subperiosteal implants This is an alternative procedure for those who do not have the required bone density and volume for endosteal implants. Here, the titanium screw or cylinder is placed on top of the jawbone (instead of into it), right below the gum tissue. A metal framework keeps this implant in place and supports artificial teeth attached to it.
    • All-on-4 implants This unique implant is used when individuals lose many teeth due to substantial tooth decay, accidents, or other reasons. Here, just four main implants support an entire arch of teeth. All-on-4 implants form a secure foundation for new teeth to be attached and improve teeth functionality, which benefits many patients.
    • Zygomatic implants This implant is specifically for those with excessive bone loss in the upper jaw. In such cases, the implant cannot be installed in the maxillary bone, as usual, and can only be affixed in the zygoma or the cheekbone. No bone grafting procedure is needed for zygomatic implants, making them a preferred option for many.
    • Mini dental implants When choosing an implant, dentists measure the space between two teeth. If the distance is less, mini dental implants may be recommended as they have a smaller diameter than traditional implants. This kind of procedure is best when there is a need for a single crown.
    • Immediate load implants These kinds of implants are also known as single-day implants or teeth-in-a-day implants. Usually, patients have to wait for some time before restoration takes place after the implant surgery, but with this quick fix, one can get restoration the same day.
The best implant for a person will depend on their oral health and how much stress their bone structure can support at the time of the diagnosis. So, it is vital to do a detailed analysis and diagnosis before committing to a dental procedure. Benefits of dental implants There are several benefits to getting dental implants. Here are a few of them to explore:
    • Last for a long time A dental implant can last for a long time or even a lifetime. Since it is made from titanium and integrates with the jawbone, it turns into healthy teeth roots. It is non-toxic and hence does not get rejected by the body, making it completely safe and healthy.
    • Prevent bone loss Missing teeth can cause an empty space in the jaw, which can widen due to a lack of stimulation to the bone. When implants are placed, they fill up and integrate into the bone, preventing further bone deterioration.
    • Keep adjacent teeth stable A gap between two teeth can cause the teeth to shift towards the empty space, leading to crooked teeth. This can also pull the teeth away from their natural position and affect chewing. Dental implants can keep the adjacent teeth in place, preventing these problems.
    • Reduce the risk of gum disease The risk of gum disease and infection increases when there is a gap in the teeth. This is because the gap can trap food particles, accumulating bacteria in the mouth.
Individuals suffering from missing teeth should speak to a dentist about the best treatment plan for them. The dentist can recommend a suitable type of dental implant to make chewing easier and lessen discomfort. The expert can also suggest tips to maintain the implant and prevent tooth problems in the future. However, it is important to note that dental implants are not the only solution to lost teeth. In some cases, the dentist may recommend using removable dentures or other alternatives.
  • All You Need to Know About All-in-One Computers
A few decades ago, the computers we used had displays made from cathode ray tubes. This made the size of the computer considerably large, having three aspects to them. These were input devices like mouse and keyboard, monitor, and a computer case! Over a period of time, newer and improved technology resulted in smaller monitors, creating the need to reduce the size of the display, as well as to make the computer case built into the monitor. This gave rise to all-in-one computers. Even though these resulted from reduced size of displays, the first model was considerably large and expensive to install. The Apple iMac was one of these all-in-one computers that seemed to create all the buzz. Originally, it was made on what seemed to be one block. The cathode ray display had all the components sitting under it. While many other personal computer manufacturers adopted this design, they weren’t quite able to catch the essence of the iMac. LCD technology has helped reduce the size of the displays, which has resulted in the decreased size of personal computers as well as smartphones. This is because the LCD panel or even the display base could easily have the components embedded in them.

    Desktop PC vs. all-in-one PC

All-in-one computers have redefined the style factor of most personal computers. While they do not make much of a difference in terms of functionality and specifications, the number of PC components varies. Desktop PC’s consist of a separate monitor as well as the computer case. On the other hand, the all-in-one computers have a display like a single box. This adds to the advantages of the all-in-one over the desktop PC. While the counter-argument may be brought up that there are a new set of desktop computers like the Apple Mac Mini seem to be better suited, there are other advantages associated with all-in-one computers. A lot of wiring that may seem to make the computer bulky, and this is reduced in the all-in-one PC due to the integrated components. Having said this, the Desktop PC brings quite a few things to the table that make it compelling to consider them as well. Because of the reduced size of all-in-one PCs, the memory, processor, and other drivers all need to be made smaller and this can affect their performance considerably. This may seem fast enough for most people. However, that does not justify the better performance given by desktop PCs. Another factor to consider is that all-in-one computers are not as easily upgradable as Desktop PCs. The smaller components in the all-in-one PC’s makes it difficult to open and upgrade as compared to desktop PCs that are better suited for upgradability. With the graphics and USB drives growing at a rapid pace in terms of technology, upgradability matters a lot.

    All-in-one computers vs. laptops

The biggest advantage that the all-in-one computer has over the desktop is the size. However, it is not the case when a laptop is bought into the picture. Laptop technology has advanced by leaps and bounds over the past few decades, so much so that one can compare the all-in-one computers with laptops. Although the performance given by both these models are typically the same due to the similarity in size of the components, the laptop usually has a restricted size for display compared to the all-in-one computer. Laptops have the added advantage of being portable and more flexible, making it more convenient for users. The biggest advantage, however, comes from price as the laptops are considerably cheaper than the all-in-one PC. In conclusion, the desktop has become less popular due to the advent of laptops in the market. Cost and portability have played a huge margin in this. However, performance and upgrades make the desktop PC a good option and are recommended to those looking for a good device for different purposes.
  • Selecting a good boat cover
Boat covers are very important when it comes to the boat’s protection. The investment involved in purchasing a boat is very heavy. It’s a valuable asset and if you love spending a lot of time on water, there’s nothing better than owning a boat. However, it needs safety too and should be kept away from airborne particles, dirt, grime and dust. Boat covers are quite essential for boats and have varied uses. The boat is kept dirt free and clean; moreover, even the mold and dampness is kept away. The boat is saved from UV rays of the sun. The rays are extremely destructive and the boat’s color is harmed by it. In fact, these rays are the biggest cause of weakness and cracking of rubber on the boats.
    • With a good boat cover, the boat can be saved from animals, rodents, mammals, squirrels etc. it helps in saving the boat from marks and scratches and can prevent thefts.
    • You can find many boat covers in the market. Some of them include universal style, custom cover and 2 ways. They are quite advantageous for the boat.
    • Custom covers come in different widths, lengths and beams and the boat gets a good outer shell. There are many benefits associated with these covers. Custom ones are always preferred over other ones. Although the cost is more, they are totally worth it and you will get the best selection.
There’s a set warranty period that the boat cover comes with. If warranty isn’t offered by the company, it’s not worth buying the cover. Also, it means that the quality of the cover is not up to the mark. Check the fabric that’s used for this cover. The main ones include poly-cotton blend, polyester and polyester-canvas. Everything works really well. The most popular material is polyester because it doesn’t shrink or stretch. Poly-cotton ones are good but there are chances of them breaking down. You might find them in a variety of colors; select the one you want. However, always remember that black covers might cause damage to components. Avoid using black.
  • Fatigue as a side-effect of ankylosing spondylitis
Fatigue is the main issue experienced by all the patients of spondylitis. Ankylosing spondylitis (AS) and other related diseases (SpA) affects the spine and other areas of the body. Spondylitis does not follow a similar pattern in everyone even if it is within the same family. There are some symptoms which are common for everyone such as inflammation of the eye, chronic pain, and fatigue. Pain caused by inflammation can be different for each person; it can range from mild to severe. Fatigue is one major complaint with all the patients suffering from inflammatory rheumatic diseases. Fatigue can be due to many reasons all of them are related to spondylitis. It could be due to loss of sleep, severe pain, and physical discomfort. Spondylitis causes inflammation and our body uses energy to counteract it. The body release cytokines during the progression of inflammation which causes fatigue and mild to moderate anemia. Anemia also causes tiredness. Treating spondylitis helps to reduce the inflammation and will reduce fatigue and anemia. Fatigue is a huge part of the pain experienced, so you should talk to your therapist/doctor about it. They will help you move in a manner that will minimize fatigue, pain, inflammation, and frustration. Pain in arthritis is due to inflammation in the musculoskeletal system. The central pain becomes an important factor when the central nervous system modifies the pain to become disproportionate to the amount of inflammation. There are patients with severe active rheumatoid arthritis who feel very little pain and those with minor inflammation who feel severe pain. About 25% of the patients with rheumatoid arthritis have central pain/fibromyalgia. About 15% of the patients with ankylosing spondylitis have central pain/fibromyalgia features. Daily exercises, along with functional activity, are also very important. Stuff like lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, handling, and digital dexterity are a few examples of functional activity that have to be followed on a daily routine basis. Each activity is practiced in three forms: pacing the activity, flare management, and slow progression. A few exercise forms like Tai Chi, Yoga, and Qigong deliver excellent results.
