Common things to know about erectile dysfunction

There are a whole host of conditions which fall under the category of Erectile Dysfunction (ED). It is a condition which can be complete or partial, where the person is not able to maintain an erect penis till orgasm. There are several causes for it: long standing conditions like diabetes or hypertension, the side effects and, more importantly, the medicines taken to manage these conditions. All these reduce the chances of maintaining an erection.

To understand why, let’s understand how an erection works. A combination of the nervous system, vascular system and tissues control an erection. The penis has within it a whole array of nerves; let’s forget them for now.

The core of the penis, two cylinders running all the way up the length, is full of spongy tissue which fills up and retains blood pumped into the penis during an erection. This spongy tissue (corpuscavernosa) is supported by muscular erectile tissue surrounding it and another type of tissue (Fibrous Tunicae) encircles the cylinders, prevents the blood from leaking back out. Coming back to the nerves, stimulation from the brain triggers the entire sequence of events. Things which can go wrong happen only if the three systems mentioned above are affected.

  • Tissue: Calcification is a process in which, over time, calcium gets deposited in certain bodily tissues. This causes the pliability or elasticity of the tissue to be lost. When calcification happens at any part of the anatomy of an erection (paired cavernosal arteries or to the fibrous sheath which blocks off blood in the corpus cavernosa), there are leaks or a reduction in capacity.
  • Vascular: There are two main arteries supplying blood to the penis, and one vein, the dorsal vein, takes blood away. If at any stage the amount of blood drops, then the erection is under pressure; the erectile tissue (small muscles which help hold things in place) and the fibrous seal at the base (tunicae) are now put to work. Sometimes leaks in the blood vessels may happen, sometimes low blood pressure may be the norm.
  • Nervous: In some cases there may be a disconnect of the nerves themselves, trauma either mental or physical may not be allowing a strong enough signal to pass and sustain to keep the high level of physical demand which arousal and an erection asks from the various systems. This can be determined by testing or counselling.

  • Things to Consider before Buying Furniture
Are you overwhelmed with the variety of furniture and sofas available in the market? Is searching through the brands, the styles, and the features making your head go round in circles? Worry not. We have a few pointers you need to consider before you decide to bring that enormous bookshelf home for your beloved books.
A style that complements your taste
Before buying a new piece of that plush leather Cabriole sofa or that orange recliner, be acquainted with your style. Knowing your style helps you choose the right kind of furniture without hassle. You won’t be lost in the sea of sales or bring home things that don’t even match your desired style.
Quality checks for wooden furniture and sofa
The quality check of a product, whether it’s a coffee table or a sofa, is a must if you want your furniture to run a long course. Sometimes, two pieces of furniture look identical but the prices could be poles apart. It is because of the quality of the product, the lumber or the fabric or the finish of the upholstery. Checking the quality of furniture and sofa is essential for a discerning buyer.
Research the fiber and upholstery before buying
The selection of any furniture is based on the outer look of the piece. It is imperative to scrutinize the inner makings, but you shouldn’t ignore the outer look of the furniture either. Make sure you go for the upholstery that goes along with your lifestyle. If the furniture is not used too much, you can go for light colors, velvets or silk-based fabrics. But if the usage is heavy, this fabric obliterates too fast. Also, Nubucks or suede leather are great choices if you have an excessive usage of furniture and sofa. Do check the leather authenticity, for there are a variety of fake leather types available in the market.
    Explore the finish and texture
The finish and texture will give you an idea about the quality, but sometimes it camouflages the flaws. If it’s deep painted or stain finished, it is likely to look all perfect. But use your skin to get acquainted with the fabric. Lounge on it, use it the way you would if it was home. There shouldn’t be any bumps, bubbles, or tweaks. The quality should be consistent throughout, without any splinters or ends sticking out. The hardware aspects like nuts, bolts should be covered with care or match the fabric. Never take the words of the seller at face value. They want to sell you the furniture, which means they would use every means available to hide the flaws.
Check the comfort level of the furniture
An uncomfortable couch or a curved armchair could give you a bad case of backache; so make sure it matches your comfort levels. Are the cushions stuffed rightly with well-defined corners and curves? Is it properly sewn? Are the legs of the dining table fixed snugly to the board? Is the upholstery cushioned and fluffy enough on the dining chair? The contour of any fabric sewn on the wood should be plump and well-shaped with no springs protruding.
    Measure your space
So you have got your living room decorated with this trendy new texture and now the old furniture looks out of place. You think about the furniture and sofa you had seen in a homecare magazine and you decide to bring it home. It is easier said than done since you have to keep in mind a number of factors before picking something randomly, such as like measurement of space of the area you want to buy your new sofa for. You wouldn’t want that leather L-shaped sofa with a huge center table to grab the whole room for itself. Having the right kind of furniture, especially sofa in your living room can enhance the home décor. Next time when you are in the market to shop for furnishings, keep these few pointers in mind and find the furniture that is trendy, enriches your comfort and doesn’t rob you of your hard earned incentives.

  • 5 ways to reduce the risk of melanoma
Most people are not familiar with the term melanoma. It is a type of skin cancer where pigment-producing cells within our body become cancerous. One might notice the growth of unusual moles in their body in such cases. There are various melanoma treatments available but are unknown to many. Here are five ways that help in reducing the risk of melanoma.
    • Avoid extreme sun exposure: Melanoma treatments often require people to avoid going out during peak scorching heat hours. Try to schedule your meetings or other outings at a time when sun rays are not at their strongest. UV rays from the sun may cause damage to your skin cells and increase the chances of skin cancer. Excessive exposure to sun’s intense rays also makes your skin more prone to sunburns and sun tans.
    • Use sunscreen: Though sunscreens don’t filter out all the harmful UV rays from the sun, they do manage to protect your skin to a large extent. Use sunscreens that have a minimum SPF of 15. The American Academy of Dermatology prescribes the use of waterproof broad-spectrum sunscreen having a minimum SPF of 30. The more sunscreen you apply, the more your skin will be protected, hence reducing the risk of melanoma.
    • Cover yourself: Melanoma treatments also suggest covering yourself up as much as you can. Before going out in the scorching heat, make sure you cover your hands, apply sunscreen on your face, and wear full-length trousers so that your skin is least exposed to the harmful UV rays of the sun.
    • Avoid use of tanning beds: Indoor tanning is caused by tanning devices that emit ultraviolet radiation and increases the risk of skin cancer. Indoor tanning can increase the possibility of melanoma by 75%. Hence it is strongly recommended to stop usage of tanning beds.
    • Know your skin: It is essential that you become familiar with your skin and keep a regular check on it. If you notice any unusual symptom, it is better to consult a dermatologist at the earliest.
Apart from the above measures, there are some natural melanoma treatments, which you can explore to reduce the risk of melanoma.
